How to Review a China Wholesale Product Catalog Before You Inquire

A large catalog creates options. It does not tell you which products are current, comparable, suitable for your market, or worth asking about.

Write the shelf before browsing the catalog

Decide what the product must do before opening more pages. Name the category, target customer, acceptable material or construction, size range, color limit, packaging constraint, intended test quantity, and the unanswered question that would stop the purchase.

This brief keeps a broad catalog from turning into a folder of unrelated screenshots. It also prevents an attractive item from changing the original requirement halfway through the search.

Use a three-pass catalog screen

01

Identity pass

Save the full URL, product code, category, color, size or configuration, and the page date you checked.

02

Evidence pass

Check whether the photos, measurements, captions, source link, and variant list describe the same item.

03

Commercial-question pass

List the facts that still need a current answer: price scope, MOQ, packing, lead time, QC, shipping, and transaction route.

04

Stop pass

Remove items whose identity remains vague or whose missing evidence would make any quote impossible to compare.

The six fields that make a catalog item comparable

FieldUseful noteWeak note
Product identityExact code, category, model or cut“Popular item”
VariantSpecific color, size, material, configuration“Many options”
Visible evidenceRequired angles, measurement method, inclusionsOne promotional image
Quantity questionTest quantity plus size/color split“Low MOQ?”

Do not confuse a product list with a price list

A catalog may show codes and photos without current commercial terms. A number can refer to a different variant, quantity, currency, date, or included service. Save the visible number exactly as shown, but label it “page observation” until the responsible source confirms its scope.

If several items are being compared, request the same fields for each one. A quote is useful only when the item, variant, quantity, currency, inclusions, packing assumption, and valid date are clear.

A shortlisting rule that protects attention

Keep

The next question is specific

You can name the exact item, required variant, visible evidence, missing field, and why an answer would change the decision.

Remove

The next question is still “tell me more”

The page lacks a stable code, variant, measurement, or relevant source, so a reply cannot be checked against the catalog item.

Before leaving for an external catalog

  • My search phrase describes the product before it describes price or quality.
  • I know which category-specific measurements and photo angles matter.
  • I will save the full page URL and exact product code together.
  • I will not treat a catalog result as seller, stock, or transaction verification.
  • I have a stop condition for missing source, size, QC, or shipping evidence.
