Begin with the smallest useful test—not the smallest possible order
A useful test quantity should answer a business question: whether the size mix is workable, whether the material matches the page, whether packaging survives the route, or whether customers respond to the product. One unit may be too little to evaluate consistency; a large mixed order may hide which variant caused the problem.
Write the test objective first. Then decide how many units and which variants are needed to answer it.
Ask which minimum is being quoted
Per style
The total units required for one product design, possibly mixed across approved colors or sizes.
Per color
Each color must reach its own minimum even when the style total is higher.
Per size
A size-level minimum can make a balanced clothing or footwear run difficult.
Per carton
Packing configuration, not product demand, may control the minimum shipped quantity.
Per order value
Several products may be combined only after a monetary threshold is reached.
Per production run
A made-to-order item may require a different commitment than available stock.
A low-MOQ scenario worth calculating
Suppose a clothing item appears to allow 20 units. That number is not enough. If the minimum is 10 per color, two colors fill the order but leave no room to test a third. If each size must have five units, the available size range may become too narrow. If mixed sizes are allowed but the unit price changes below 50 units, the test has a different cost.

Do not let MOQ hide the item question
A favorable minimum does not repair a weak product record. Confirm the exact code, variant, measurements, required QC angles, packing, and source relationship before discussing quantity. Otherwise the “small order” is still a test of an unidentified item.
For brand-named goods, lawful sourcing and authorization remain separate questions. A low minimum does not establish origin, authenticity, or permission to sell.
